Submit Written Comments about the Mining Permit Application

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will accept written comments about Sunrise Coal’s Permit Application #429 for the proposed Bulldog Mine until December 29, 2014 (note revised date following the public hearing).

These comments should demonstrate how your life, your well-being, and your way of living will be directly impacted if the proposed mine is allowed to move forward.

Any written comments will become part of the permit application and will be part of the public record.

Here is a sample letter (updated Sept. 4, 2014) you may use as a template for your comments.  Note that even though this is an underground mine, it falls under the state’s Surface Mining Reclamation Act (SMCRA).
